Coach Cleeves returns to his roots in Leeds.

The City Of Leeds Basketball Club is excited to announce that Coach Phil Cleeve will take the reigns of the U16 Boys Gold squad this season.

Adding another experienced coach to our roster is very important given the growth of the programme again this season. Coach Cleeve’s recent return to Leeds has seen him work with our U14 Girls last season and the opportunity to use his skillset in another quarter of the club made absolute sense for the upcoming year.

Phil’s experience down on the South coast and in Winchester has seen him evolve and as a former Leeds Tiger, it was natural to afford him the opportunity to bring his experience to the floor. The U16 Boys Gold group is a key step on our pathway as it directly feeds into the City Of Leeds Basketball Academy, and it’s fantastic to see that this generation gets the chance to work with Phil and benefit from his experience.

COLBC Director Matt Newby was feeling excited about the chance to bring Phil into the programme with this group:

“I am excited to see how Phil’s experience and knowledge translates to the young people under his charge this season. It’s clear that he wants to give back to the basketball community that he grew up within and I feel his placement within our pathway will ensure the stability and growth of a very important group.”

Coach Cleeve was looking forward to working within the U16 Boys programme this year:

"I am thankful for the opportunity to work with such a talented group. The season is going to be tough, as it should be at this level, but I can't wait to see how the team develops and I hope to help these young men reach their full potential."

As we approach the start of the new season, the club is welcoming prospective new players to come along and join our programme. Please contact foundation@cityofleedsbasketballclub.co.uk
