COLBC would like to congratulate U16 Boys Gold Head Coach Sam Messam on his latest outstanding coaching achievement..
The FIBA Europe Coaching Certificate (FECC) program has established its position as one of the most prestigious coaching programs in European sport, developing coaches who are working with young talent.
The FECC offers coaches from Europe and around the world the unique opportunity to learn from some of the best in the business. The certificate focuses on the areas which are important in the identification and development of young talent, while offering an opportunity to network with other coaches and complete a program that will increase their basketball knowledge as well as help them to find a job.
Alongside his role with the City Of Leeds Basketball Club, Coach Messam is also the Basketball England Talent Programme & Pathway Manager.
Coach Messam was happy to have completed his FECC and eager to continue his development:
"I started the FIBA Europe Coaching Certificate (FECC) in 2018, unfortunately, due to covid I was unable to attend in 2019 and 2020. Having now completed the three year course it seems like a very long, but extremely rich learning experience. Sharing a classroom with coaches from fifty European countries and being taught by Nenad Trunic, Svetislav Pesic, Paplo Laso, and Pedro Martinez has been nothing short of a privilege. Am I a better coach for it?…I guess we will find out. Am I more aware of my practice, technical and tactical development, and the game in its widest sense? For sure. But my biggest take away is knowing what I don’t know!"
COLBC Director Matt Newby was full of praise for Coach Messam after his latest achievement:
"It’s great to see another British Coach succeed in completing their FECC and even better that it is one of our own in Coach Messam. The significant positives for the programme are that the higher learning that Coach Messam has undergone, will no doubt help strengthen the offer for our coaching team, while hopefully inspire our young and talented coaches to follow in his footsteps.
