Coach Shuttlewood earns privileged opportunity at Academy programme that continues to set the standard.

The City Of Leeds Basketball Club would like to wish Coach Jake Shuttlewood all the best for the future as he moves on to a new role at EABL powerhouse Myerscough Academy.

It with a sense of pride that we announce the departure of coach Jake Shuttlewood, who will make the move to Myerscough College following successful application to join their ranks as a Coach and educator. Jake's contribution to the COLBC pathway has been significant, coaching on every level; community, development and performance.

Jake is a member of staff whom has seen the significant benefits of our investment in coaching and the wider landscape of the work we do on a local, regional, national and international level. His hard work and diligence has paid dividends with the opportunity of working within the Myerscough Academy system endorsing his credibility, proving his worth and value. He will be working with the highly ranked programme and will instantly be under the guidance and mentorship of some incredibly well-respected and highly experienced individuals.

Included in this, is the architect of the Myerscough pathway Neal Hopkins, who continues to push the boundaries of the academy proposition in the UK and whom remains one of the most respected coaches in the country. Coupled with Mike Bernard and James Jones who bring volumes of experience to the floor as players and coaches and the promising Lewis Scott who is arguably one of the best up and coming coaches in the pathway. This is a strong community of practice.

COLBC Direct Matt Newby was proud to see Jake receive a well-deserved opportunity:

‘We at City Of Leeds basketball wish Jake all the best in his new appointment. Opportunities such as this are rare and it’s a strong endorsement of our own environment, that a coach who we have invested in and developed receives such a significant role at a highly regarded institution. We are thankful for his strong contribution to our programme and the dedication and loyalty he has shown throughout."

Coach Shuttlewood wanted to put on record his thanks as he moves on to pastures new:

“The club and management team have always supported my aspirations of taking basketball as far as I possibly can and they have definitely allowed me to do that. The hundreds of opportunities from community, national league and even allowing me to play on the men’s squad has developed me as a coach with my pedagogy, philosophy and methodology. But above all of that, it has made me the person I am today and I will forever be grateful for that. I would like to thank everyone at City of Leeds Basketball Club for the most amazing start to my coaching career, especially Matthew Newby for his mentorship, support and guidance throughout my tenure with the club. Also, the overwhelming support from the parents and players to my fellow coaches and staff. It has been an excellent experience which I will always remember fondly.
The opportunity to join Myerscough is an exciting one for me and will give me the chance to coach some of the best talent in the country within an EABL program. This environment will help me to continue to develop as a coach around a strong cohort of staff and players alike. The combination of these qualities will allow me to continue to evolve my coaching, therefore enabling me to take the next step in British basketball. Finally, I want to wish everyone at City of Leeds all the best in their future endeavours. I will be keeping up to date with all of your journeys and successes.”
