COLBF was delighted to welcome 12 primary schools from across Leeds to Leeds Beckett University Headingley Campus for a day of skills, drills and competition.
City Of Leeds Basketball Foundation, in collaboration with the Leeds Well Schools Partnership, provided fantastic opportunity for 240 Key Stage 2 children to experience the game of basketball, many of whom were doing so for the first time.
The boys and girls were treated to an exciting format of skill development, small-sided games and competitions. Guest-speaker, GB athlete Danny Evans, who's own basketball journey started at a similar event, spoke to the children about his collegiate and professional career in the game.
COLBF Director Matt Newby was buoyed by the impact and engagement of this event:
"With 240 young people taking their first steps into the sport today, I feel there is an opportunity to capture the children's imagination. The activities today, have improved their understanding of the game, challenged their potential, and given them their first taste of competition. The opportunity for the children to meet someone like Danny, who has used basketball as a vehicle to secure a high-quality education as a scholarship athlete in the US, and who has represented his country on so many levels, provides them with an aspirational message that is very much real to them as young people growing up in Leeds.
