COLBC U16 Girls Gold crowned U16 Girls North Conference Champions!

Everyone at the City Of Leeds Basketball programme would like to congratulate the U16 Girls Gold squad on being crowned Champions of the Basketball England U16 Girls North Conference today.

Going one better on last season's 2nd place finish, the COLBC U16 Girls Gold squad have completed their goal for this season and finished in the top spot of the JNL U16 Girls North Conference.

Head Coach Katie Lamond was overjoyed at the successes this group of young women have had both on and off the court this season:

"It was a season that has featured some extremely close clashes, and a year where multiple games have been decided within last few seconds of the game. After finishing runners up the previous year, the 2023/24 season has been a real test of the Gold group's aspirations, character, desire and cohesion and I am incredibly happy for the girls! They have managed the pressure and expectations of this season phenomenally, backing eachother brilliantly in some really tough situations. Likewise, the support and investment from the club, other coaches and the fantastic parents/guardians have beyond aided in the success of the group. This was a complete team effort from such a receptive, resilient and talented group of girls. They are a team that completely deserve the title of league winners - Congratulations!"

COLBC Director Matt Newby shared in congratulating this group of exceptional young women on their successes:

"The news that the girls have secured the U16 Girls North Conference title is testimony to the players’ investment in the game and the hard work and diligence of Head Coach Katie Lamond. The future is very bright for these young women both on and off the court, and they are excellent role-models for our younger cohorts. We look forward to our young women levelling up in 2024/25 and they are exceptional representatives of our club ethos and future focus. The club very much wants to become a standard-bearer for the women’s game in the city and the broader region and this has been reflected in the investment in a Women’s and Girls Officer, alongside a commitment to developing the sport across the city via the Together Fund. I genuinely feel that the time is now for young women to engage in our sport."
